CzechGeo
EPOS
CzechGeo / EPOS is the system of geophysical observatations performed by geoscience institutions of the Czech Republic. The backbone of CzecGeo is formed by permanent observatories (seismic, GPS, magnetic, gravimetric and geodynamic) involved in global networks which provide data in real time. Permanent observatoies are complemented by local stations in selected regions of interest. The third level of the observational system is formed by mobile stations which are deployed for repeated measuraments or field experiments within major international projects.
Project CzechGeo is closely related with the 7th FP project EPOS (European Plate Observing System) which was included into the European roadmap of research infrastruktures of ESFRI (European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructures) in 2008.

CarbonNet monitoring network is a part of the CzechGeo project. It has been operating for the monitoring of carbon dioxide emanations in the area of the Cheb basin and Slavkovský les Mts. Uprising CO2 gas, of which deep-seated origin was confirmed by isotope analyses, goes through whole thickness of the Earth's crust and, thus, it brings data on conditions along its transport path rom the depth of first tens of kilometers. Changes in amount of gas can thus indicate changing stress conditions in the Earth's crust connected with seismic activity. Data on uprising amount of the CO2 gas are of great importance also for local spa business which is based on the mineral springs carbonated by deep carbon dioxide.
