Principal investigator:

RNDr. Petr Mixa, Czech Geological Survey

Co-investigators:

RNDr. Michal Janouch, Czech Hydrometeorological Institute

Description:

Basic geological map of the deglaciated north part of James Ross – will be constructed together wit the creation of GIS interactive info-systém and trilingual prints (cz, esp, engl). Volcanology and paleontological record of global change will be studied together with structural-rheological study of emplacement of the Antarctic Peninsula Batholith, structural and metamorphic mechanisms of formation of AP magmatic arc. Geological and geomorphological research will define the youngest geological history. The aims of the climatological part is to improve knowledge for global assessments on ozone depletion and climate change. Biological part will study breeding biology, behaviour and nesting success of Antarctic Tern (Sterna vittata) and South Polar Scua (Stercorarius maccormicki) and monitoring of sea mammals. The environmental part of the project is focused on the study of presence, concentrations and degradation of industrial persistent organic pollutants immisions transported to the Antartica.
