Description:

The present project relies on the results of two Master Theses by Václav Mencl and Petra Matysová. They are both in preparation, supervised by Jakub Sakala. The aim of the first one (V. Mencl) is a detailed systematical description of silicified woods and a subsequent palaeoecological characterization of the studied area. The second one by P. Matysová (co-supervised by J. Jehlička, supposed continuation as PhD Thesis) is focused on determination of the way and the conditions, under which the woods were silicified using modern instrumental methods, as Raman spectroscopy, light & SEM microscopy and cathodoluminescence. Then, the aim of this proposal consists in synthesis of partial results obtained by different methods, i.e., palaeobotanical-systematical and geochemical-mineralogical.
