Description:

Landslides repeatedly caused high direct looses (landslide events 1997, 2006) in the Outer Western Carpathians, where they also influence overall development due to limiting conditions for constructions. Future occurrence of dangerous landslide events is expected due to climate changes. Furthermore, the positive economic development of the area may increase possible looses caused by the landsliding. Despite of that, just a little attention is paid to the mutual interactions among the natural and human environments and their future development and effects on the landslide risk development. This project aims to bridge this gap by assessing landslide hazard and risk within the City of Zlín and its surroundings. This assessment will be based on detailed and complete historical information about place, type and occurrence frequency of landslides, caused damage and vulnerability of the objects at risk. Attention will be paid to the planned development of the city and its effects on the risk development.
