The laboratory employs optical microscopy to study the composition and structure of rocks, sediments, coal, and other materials within the framework of organic petrology and paleontology. Microscopic observations are carried out using instruments equipped for reflected and transmitted light, as well as fluorescence microscopy. A dedicated preparation room is available for producing thin and polished sections of samples.
