Geochemistry and petrology of Moldanubian amphibolites

Geochemistry and petrology of Moldanubian amphibolites

The goal of this project was examination of evolution and origin of amphibolites and related metabasites of the Moldanubian Zone. The project results contribute to a better knowledge of this important rock type and provide new information concerning to location of suture zones in the Moldanubian unit. Individual types of the metabasites from the southern Czech Republic and Lower Austria was sampled and characterized both mineralogically and chemically. The chemical composition of selected rock-forming and accessory minerals (amphibole, garnet, pyroxene, titanite, ilmenite) was investigated by microprobe.
