Radiolytic alteration of organic matter in uraniferous environment

Radiolytic alteration of organic matter in uraniferous environment

A complex study of radiolytic alteration of organic matter of various origin exposed to radiation
from uranium in various levels and mineralization states.

In many sedimentary uranium deposits, a close relationship between uranium content and form and organic matter can be observed. However, most organic geochemical studies of mineralized areas do not sufficiently address the importance of organic and uranium associations, although organic matter plays an important role in the mobility, accumulation and hydrothermal mineralization of uranium. In the presence of uranium, radiolytic and chemical alteration processes take place in organic matter. The study of changes in the structure of uranon-bearing organic matter is an interesting topic especially in geological research, and in connection with the effects of radioactive substances and wastes in the environment and in nuclear research. The aim of this project is to study organic matter from several uranium deposits in the Czech Republic accompanied by low to extremely high uranium content, identify changes in its structure and find their connection with the content and physicochemical form of uranium and geological and geochemical characteristics of the deposit.
