Description:

The project objective consists of practical applications of two previous bilateral projects (Greek-Czech, R+D Cooperation 2000-2001; Greece-Cyprus Cooperation 2001-2003). It aims to the development of a rapid information network through web pages that include outputs concerned of (1) macroseismic observations of significant Greek earthquakes, specifically observed intensity at every site affected by the earthquake to produce isoseismal maps, as well as information and pictures of damages or phenomena related to the earthquake (landslides, liquefactions, etc.), (2) isoseismal maps and maps of macroseismic residuals drawn automatically, attenuation relationships and correlations of macroseismic observations to geologic and tectonic maps to determine local site effects on seismic vibrations. Earthquake (3) strong motion records of selected earthquakes monitored by the NOA accelerographic network of the Geodynamic Institute, (4) materials and photographs related to the damage effects of earthquakes on structures and environment and (5) earthquake hazard maps for selected parts of Greece considering corrections to site effects caused by local geology. The reaserch team of the IRSM AS CR is responsible for the items (2) and (5). Towards to the end of 2004 36 isoseismal maps were compiled altogether and more than 40 others are under processing. Earthquake hazard assessments for the western and central parts of Greece had been already calculated and the effects of local geological structures are at present under preparation.
