Description:

The project is aimed at elucidation of organic and physical structures of maceral groups of hard coals and the role of these structures in coal conversion processes. For the purpose, chosen hard coals will be separated into maceral riched fractions or maceral groups by the continual centrifugation. Petrographic and instrumental analysis (advanced infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and solid-state NMR spectroscopy) of the fractions and maceral groups will be carried out. From data obtained the coal organic structures will be constructed. Physical structures will be characterized by non-covalent interactions and surface parameters. Chosen fractions will be converted by liquefaction and pyrolysis. The relations between structures and properties of the products of conversion will be studied.
